Studying the effects of Ionizing Radiation on biological systems has gained attention of radiation biologists globally since the discovery of X-rays in 1895. In recent few decades, it has gained momentum due to the wider acceptability of radiation/radiation techniques in diagnosis and therapy of various diseases including cancer. These studies not only have implication in therapy and medicines, but they are essential for radiation protection planning and radiation risk assessment. Various groups are working around the world to increase the therapeutic efficacy of radiotherapy at the same time to minimize the side-effects. The field is inter-disciplinary with researchers involved from biology, chemistry and physics putting their concerted efforts in this direction.
