The library has got the necessary infrastructure and facilities in order to meet the diversified information requirements of scientists, engineers, research scholars and students of IUAC and its user community from various universities and institutions all over the country. The major resources of the library include books, journals, reports, conference proceedings, manuals and Ph. D. thesises. The library has a computerised book catalog and it can be searched through library intranet. The library is open round the clock, 7 days week throughout the year. This unique facility helps and gives freedom to the user community to refer the desired documents without any constraint of time.
Library collection
At present the library has a collection of nearly 12,000 documents comprising of ~2,400 books, 7000 bound volumes of periodicals and ~2500 reports, conference proceedings, databooks, manuals and thesis. The library follows open access system and the books are arranged using Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme. The bound volumes of journals are arranged alphabetically. Proper indications regarding the location of documents are given in the shelves so that the users will be able to locate in minimum time. The library has a very good collection of recent books broadly covering the subjects Nuclear Physics, Materials Science, Electronics, Computer, Mechanical Engg., Vacuum Instrumentation, Detectors, Radio Biology, Radiation Physics, Atomic Physics, Mathematical Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Astrophysics, Cryogenics etc. The library is currently subscribing 42 periodicals. The e-version of most of them can be accessed using internet facilities. Apart from this, PROLA(Physical Review On-Line Archive) can also be accessable. Annual reports from nearly 60 labs are coming regularly. Ph.D. thesises are housed in a separate section. INIS database on CD-ROM from 1976- and mastercopy of instrument manuals are also available for reference.
Library services
The users of the library can consult any document of their interest within the library. No books or journals are issued to the users. The library is open 24 hours a day throughout the year. The open access system facilitates the readers to lay their hands directly to the documents of their interest. There are some documents which are marked as "Reference". These documents are to be consulted only within the working hours of the office. Reading facility available in the library helps to utilise these reference books. Photocopy service is also available. The users have to reshelve the documents on their respective place after the use.
